Teeth whitening before a Seoul photo shoot: hanbok, couple and pre-wedding photos
When to book whitening before a hanbok, studio or pre-wedding shoot in Seoul, how many days to leave, and what to avoid so your smile looks even on camera.
Quick answer
Book in-office whitening at least two days before your shoot. Right after whitening, teeth can show faint white spots and feel sensitive while the enamel rehydrates; this usually settles within 24–48 hours. Have a check-up and scaling first if you have tartar or stains, and skip coffee, red wine and dark sauces between the whitening and the shoot.
Plan the days backwards from your shoot
- 3–4 days before: check-up and scaling, if you need them
- 2–3 days before: in-office whitening, one visit of about 60–90 minutes
- Between whitening and the shoot: light-coloured food, a straw for drinks, no smoking
- Shoot day: brush gently and bring water and lip balm
Why not whiten the day before?
Whitening temporarily dries the enamel, which can make teeth look patchy, with chalky spots, for a day or so. Sensitivity is also strongest in the first 24 hours. A two-day gap lets the colour settle and gives a more natural, even shade on camera.
How white should you go?
Studio lighting and retouching already brighten teeth. A shade close to the whites of your eyes usually looks natural in photos; going much whiter can look artificial next to hanbok colours and skin tones. Ask to see the shade guide before you start.
Crowns, veneers or fillings on front teeth
Whitening only changes natural enamel. Crowns, veneers and visible fillings keep their colour, so ask the dentist whether the result will look even before you decide.
Questions people also ask
How many days before a photo shoot should I whiten my teeth?
At least two days, ideally two to four. This leaves time for temporary white spots and sensitivity to settle.
Will whitening show on camera?
Yes, a change of a shade or two is usually visible, especially in close-up portraits. Retouching can soften small differences but can't fix uneven colour between crowns and natural teeth.
Can I have scaling and whitening on the same day before a shoot?
Yes, if your gums are healthy. Gums can be a little tender after scaling, which is another reason to leave a couple of days before the shoot.
