Quick answer
Professional scaling at our Gongdeok clinic takes about 40 minutes. Tartar and stains are removed with gentle ultrasonic scaling, then your teeth are polished. We work at a pace that suits sensitive teeth and explain what we see in English. It's a good reset for your gums while you travel, and a good first step before whitening.
What's included
- A quick check of your gums and tartar build-up
- Ultrasonic scaling above and just below the gum line
- Polishing to remove surface stains from coffee, tea and food
- Brushing and flossing tips for the places we found hard to reach
What to expect afterwards
Gums can bleed a little and teeth can feel sensitive for a day or two, especially if there was a lot of tartar. This usually settles quickly. If bleeding or pain continues, message us.
How often you need it
Most adults benefit from scaling every 6–12 months. People with gum disease, smokers and people who build up tartar quickly may need it more often. We tell you which interval suits you.
Without Korean insurance
Visitors pay the fee directly. Foreign residents aged 19 and over who are enrolled in Korean National Health Insurance can usually have one scaling a year covered.
Consultations are in English or Korean.
Questions patients ask
How much is scaling without Korean insurance?
Scaling is ₩55,000 when booked online (regular ₩60,000). Check-up, scaling and whitening together in one visit is ₩330,000 online.
Does scaling hurt?
Most people feel vibration and some sensitivity rather than pain. Tell us if it's uncomfortable and we slow down or numb the area.
Is scaling bad for my teeth?
No. Ultrasonic scaling removes tartar without wearing away enamel. Teeth can feel different afterwards because the tartar that covered them is gone.
Should I have scaling before whitening?
Yes, it helps. Cleaning first removes tartar and surface stains so the whitening gel works more evenly.
Can I eat normally after scaling?
Yes. If your teeth feel sensitive, avoid very hot or very cold food for a day.
